Integration Paper free essay sample

According to the Mines and Consciences Bureau (MGM), the country has an estimated $840 billion worth of untapped mineral resources with a span of 9 million hectares (a third of our country total land area) identified as having high mineral potential. This and other data from the MGM shows the high profitability of mining in the Philippines, which makes it attractive to foreign investors and transnational corporations. But, these mineral resources are found within our lands, as well as under our seas, both of which are also rich in other resources that sustain other economic activities around our archipelago. To add to this, the policies we have in place and endorsed by the government make it even more desirable. These policies make it easy and very profitable for transnational companies to pursue mining operations, and they are given a considerably favorable amount of control over the land their operations occupy. The mining stations that come to be in these specified areas have a tendency to invade the local communities lives in many debilitating ways, and often times many indigenous peoples are displaced from their own ancestral lands. We will write a custom essay sample on Integration Paper or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This causes not just unrest within the community and within the area, but also negatively impacts the livelihoods, cultural practices and traditions, health, and identity of these locals. The mining situation in the Philippines has been a long debated topic, and for many good reasons. It is an industry that is pervasive in many ways, and it is an issue underplayed by many people; it is a much larger issue than it is made to look like. It is an industry considered to be destructive and unsustainable, and as it stands, it is just that.Different sectors in our society play a part in this issue, including economics, environment, coloratura, and political. All these systems are interrelated. Each cannot change without affecting or changing another. By carefully looking into this situations and analyzing the interrelation of the different factors, we will see that mining is more than just another industry and carries different effects and consequences on our country and people. Minerals are non-renewable resources, and this fact is telling of the limited lifespan of the mining industry. But, given the mineral wealth of our country, it can be considered a key in economic growth. The total contribution of mining to the national gross domestic product remains small, just ranging room 0. 6 to 1 percent. Contribution to exports hovers around 2 to 6 percent, as compared to agricultural contributions, which amounted to around 8 percent. Another claim mining companies have been making is their ability to generate jobs for the local communities and their contribution in further developing local industries.Statistically speaking though, the contribution of the mining sector to the national total employment consistently remains below 1 percent. As it is, extractive mining is a low-employment generating activity, as companies often invest high capital on machines and necessary cosmologies in their operations instead, minimizing the need for a large number of employees. Also, the available jobs offer no security and permanency, as again, mining operations have a limited lifespan, and more often than not, workers are hired on a contractual basis. Some people in these areas are left with no choice but to apply for jobs in these companies, as their own livelihoods have been disrupted by the mining operations. The environmental impacts of the mining industry are as numerous as it is devastating. Mining is deemed to cause several adverse effects on our environment, which lead to health risks, public hazards, and risks to the general safety of the public. In just the exploratory stage of the mining companies, lands and mountains are already subject to large-scale alterations.Forests are cut down for open pit mines; mountains are hollowed as tunnels are being dug underground. Polluted farmlands are left infertile and rivers are left dead, destroying livelihoods and the everyday lives of communities. Though there are claims of responsible mining and talks of limiting and controlling operations in order to minimize the impacts, the adverse impacts are still often irreversible. More than just affecting the landscape, the biodiversity of the affected areas are also critically affected.Flora and fauna are effectively displaced and perhaps even at risk for illnesses caused by pollution from the mines. The effects of these environmental changes are magnified when we consider the Philippine setting, as operations, which are often large-scale contrast the small areas they take over. Several areas of our country are also subject to natural disasters, and with the unwarranted changes in the natural landscape hat help communities and areas defend against them, there is a higher risk Of devastation on the environment and the people.Included here is the increased risk in high seismic areas. Once mountains have been hollowed to create tunnels, the surface slowly thins and weakens, and in cases of seismic activity in the area, these tunnels are prone to caving in, which entails that any structure found on the surface of those would be destroyed, again leading to furthe r risks for the communities still located in these areas. Mining operations also make use of different chemicals when extracting minerals, and this in turn produces toxic wastes or mine tailings. These mine tailings, in turn, affect the health of communities.Water sources become polluted, causing skin diseases and other illnesses in the communities affected. This affects the productivity of individuals, thus hindering them from pursuing their daily lives and economic activities. Here, the coloratura aspects of society also come to play. Most, if not all, of these foreign mining investors and transnational companies primarily pursue this industry for their own economic exploits. More often Han not, the locals or the indigenous people (IP) of the mining areas are neglected or manipulated. The IP, who have historically cultivated the area and utilized the lands for their own resources and cultural practices and livelihoods, are now the ones displaced and have become, technically, illegal lodgers in their own identified ancestral domains. Mining has been found to affect not only the Pips livelihoods, but also their cultural ties as a people, even leading to a loss of cultural identity (Waterier, 2012). Some of these Pips have also practiced small-scale mining in their culture, but now that large- call mining operations have taken over, they are disallowed from continuing their own operations. They are left to swarm over leftovers of the mining companies long after they have left the area, exhausting the mountains of their minerals. While companies claim to have given free, prior, and informed consent to the people affected, there have been reported cases of bribery and misinformation, as well as falsified documents claiming that entire communities have agreed and fully understood the undertakings of the industry entering their domain. All these issues can boil down to the political aspect of mining.Currently, the mining industry is being aggressively promoted, as compared to the past when it was merely tolerated. The government has made several measures and changes in mining policies in order to cater to the needs and demands of foreign mining investors and corporations. During the term of former Philippine President Fidel Ramose, the Philippine Mining Act of 1 995 was authored and promoted as a solution to poverty in the country, as well as a way to boost economic growth. Its aim was to bring to life the mining industry by providing additional benefits and incentives for foreign investors in order o entice them to mine in the Philippines. The contents of the Mining Act of 1 995 include opening all public and private lands to investors or individuals to all kinds of mining activities, not to mention ancestral lands (as long as free prior informed consent was obtained). Also include are the Exploratory permit which allows qualified mining applicants to explore lands open to mining. Next, Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (AMPS) which says the government takes part in the contractors production, being the mineral owner, and in exchange, the contractors provide the funds and machineries needed. Another is the Financial or Technical Assistance Agreemen t (FETA), which allows 100 percent ownership of mining areas to the foreign investors and corporations.Other than these, there are also the Auxiliary Mining Rights given to the corporations, which gives them timber rights (right to cut all trees or timber in the mining area), water rights (use of water resources available in the area), easement rights (right to build, construct or install anything in the mining area to benefit their operations), rights to possess explosives, and entry into private lands and concession areas (with prior notification of those involved, entry into private lands shall not be prohibited). These are rights that give them a huge amount Of liberty to do whatever so they please to further their mining operations, but at what cost? These policies are unfair ones, as they were formed and endorsed without proper consultation of everyone involved in this issue. There has been substantial bias towards the private entities involved, and thus the rights of the locals are ignored. The locals who try to approach the government for help or to be heard out are shunned, as even local government units and hose above them have been, perhaps, bribed by the foreign companies. There is a lack of accountability and responsibility by the government In facing this issue. These are policies that are focused on proportioning the needs and demands Of foreign investors and corporations over the needs and priorities of our countrys own people. These are policies and laws that hear what foreign investors have to say while turning away from the pleas of the people whose lives have been adversely affe cted by the mining industry. Flowery words are used in these policies, making them seem responsible and inconsiderate of the issues that come hand in hand with mining, but in truth they do nothing but cover up the true intentions of these policies, and that is to further the mining industry. There is so much more to be said about the mining situation in the Philippines and the many issues we face because of it.The economic, environmental, coloratura and political aspects of this issue are all interrelated and cannot change without changing another. The economic factors will always affect the environment, as our economy relies so much on resources that come from it, and these in turn will affect the coloratura specs of our society, as we the people are part of this environment and our lives cannot be without the resources we take from the environment. The political aspect affects the other three, in the sense that it is the policies and laws that we make that somehow dictate the outcome of our economy and how it is to adapt and take from our environment, and how society industries and livelihoods will move Fontana considering the rules that have been thus dictated. The coloratura aspect thus affects the rest in the sense that our culture and our identity dictate how we li ve and how we relate to those around us. We, as the people of this country, should remain aware of our responsibility as its caretaker. We are all equally responsible for taking care of each other and our nations wealth, which will be passed onto forthcoming generations. Mining, as it stands now, will continue to be a priority of the government and part of the country development policy, but we must not let that stop us from intervening, interrupting and voicing out our part in protecting the rights of those manipulated and abused by the unjust systems and policies that are pushed forward. Our countrys wealth can last so long, but only if it is retrofitted and taken care of. Integration Paper free essay sample I am a bio-chemistry major at Oakwood University. The profession that I want to pursue is to become is a medical doctor. A physician is a professional who practices medicine, which is concerned with promoting, maintaining or restoring human health through the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injury, and other physical and mental impairments. They may focus their practice on certain disease categories, types of patients, and assume responsibility for the provision of continuing and comprehensive medical care to individuals, families, and communities. The type of Doctor I want to be is to do a MD/Ph. D in endocrinology. Whoever thinks that integration is only used in math is ignorant of their surroundings. The truth is that the different aspects of calculus are used in the real world every day. The Integral is used to show area under a curve. NMR stands for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. In the field of medicine an NMR is better known as an MRI. The concept of using both machines it practically the same. Chemists use a machine called an NMR machine or a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Machine. By looking at the graphs obtained from an NMR machine it can be used to identify the structure of unknown compounds. Integration is used when looking at the graph of a Hydrogen NMR spectrum to determine the relative amount of hydrogen’s are found in a compound. For example, in 1-1-2 tricholoro- ethane, the hydrogen on the first carbon is split by two hydrogens on the second carbon. This gives a ratio of 1:2:1. For these types of professions the integral is their Bible, metaphorically speaking. The instability in Israel essays

The instability in Israel essays The subject that I will be focussing on is: Why has there been instability in Israel from its formation in 1948 to present day. This question can be broken down into several key areas: The Balfour Declaration of 1917; The creation of Israel; The subsequent four wars; Egyptian-Israeli peace talks; Turmoil in Lebanon and 90s to present day. I will focus on the Palestinian point of view as well as the Israeli. I will use biographies written by both sides and their own interpretations of what was going on along side them. I will show that for there to be peace in Israel, Israel must adopt a policy, which is less prejudice towards the Arab Israelis who live in Israel but are Muslim. They must also decide what is more important land or peace. I will also show that Palestinians need to be realistic as to the land that they can receive and that compromise on their part could stop the crisis. I will also show that Israelis have been as much to blame for the violence that is still going on today. I will also use newspaper articles to show the different ways in which Palestinians and Israelis are viewed by the media bo th in the past and the present. In November 1917, The Balfour Declaration sent to a leading Zionist, Lord Rothschild stated that the British government believed that a national home for the Jews should be created in Palestine. The Zionists were an extremist group who believed that it was essential that Jewish people should have a homeland of their own. Their rights to Palestine are on the basis that in the Old Testament god promised Jews Palestine as their homeland. Britain ruled Palestine, by the end of the 19th century and this did not please the Arabs who had expected self-government and an Arab state. The aspect of the declaration that I am interested in is the place where it states ...the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people... This has been misinterpret...

Learning Disability? There Are Many Resources for You

All people learn differently. But while all students have naturally variable approaches to learning (read more about different learning styles here ), others have difficulties with specific skills that generally come more easily to their peers. A learning disability is a neurologically-based processing disorder that makes it difficult for people to learn basic skills such as reading, writing, and math, or higher level skills such as organization, time planning, abstract reasoning, long or short term memory and attention. Some people have a learning disability in a specific area, in which case the individual’s performance would be significantly lower in that subject compared with every other area. Do you suspect you have a learning disability? If you, your parents, or your teachers think that might be the case, it’s important to have a psychologist or other certified tester diagnose it through formal testing. Once you have a diagnosis, there are many resources to help you succeed.   Also remember that having a learning disability doesn’t mean you’re not smart or won’t have a bright future. On the contrary, many successful people have learning disabilities, such as Steven Spielberg, Keira Knightley, Anderson Cooper, and Tommy Hilfiger, who all have dyslexia. They didn’t let it hold them back, and there’s no reason why you need to, either! Read on for more for more information about resources for students with learning disabilities. There are different types of learning disabilities. Here are a few of the more common ones. Our Early Advising Program helps students in 9th and 10th grade discover their passions and build strong academic and extracurricular profiles to succeed in high school. Some disorders, such as ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) and Dyspraxia, are not technically learning disorders, although they can still affect and impact students’ learning abilities. Many of the accommodations we describe below may also apply to students with these disorders. If you have a learning disability and are concerned with how it’s impacting your schoolwork and other areas of learning, your first step is to get it diagnosed and make sure your high school has all the necessary documentation. Ask your parents to set up a meeting with your guidance counselor or other school administrators to discuss the situation and describe what accommodations you will need, if you know. You will probably need a letter or confirmation from your psychologist or whomever gave you the diagnosis explaining your disability and how it affects your ability to complete you schoolwork. There are other types of support available to you. For instance, the SAT , ACT , and AP exams offer special accommodations for people with different types of learning disabilities, such as extra time. To learn more about how they can support you, check out our post, 2017 Welcomes New Testing Policies for Accommodations on the SAT . Additionally, many schools will give you extra time, assign you to a school therapist, allow you to type your assessments if need be, and make other accommodations depending on your needs. If you have a learning disability, remember that you’re not alone. Millions of other students have one too. Because there are so many people with learning differences, there are numerous organizations and associations that are dedicated to supporting these individuals and their parents. There are several unique resources for students with specific learning disabilities. You’ll likely find that your high school and the other people with whom you learn and interact are more than willing to help and support you. Still, you should make an effort to seek out services that can assist you. If you’d like a tutor to help you with your schoolwork or standardized test preparation, make sure you look for one who is specifically trained to work with students with your learning disability. You can often find tutors with this type of training through local learning centers, colleges, or your high school. Document your learning disability on your college applications. For tips on how to address it, check out How to Address a Mental Health Issue or Disability on Your College Application . When touring, visiting, or speaking with representatives at prospective colleges, ask if they have resources and accommodations for your learning disability. Many schools have dedicated learning centers that can assist you. In addition, check out the Mentorship Program . Our mentors drive significant personal and professional development for their high school mentees, and can provide insight on unique circumstances like navigating high school with a learning disability.   Combining mentorship with engaging content, insider strategies, and personalized analyses, our program provides students with the tools to succeed. As students learn from successful older peers, they develop confidence, autonomy, and critical thinking skills to help maximize their chances of success in college, business, and life.

The role of using first language (L1) and translation in young Essay - 2

The role of using first language (L1) and translation in young learners’ classes - Essay Example ys: firstly, by means of a small-scale survey of EFL teachers, using a questionnaire; secondly, through on-line interviews with three former teachers; and, finally, by means of classroom observations in three classes. The data was analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The teachers expressed a range of views, reflecting the diverse views in the research literature. However, most of the participants responding to the questionnaire indicated that they felt that English should be the main language of the classroom. At the same time, these participants and all others (the former teachers and the teachers in the classes observed) acknowledged that occasional use of Arabic (or, where relevant, other first languages), for particular purposes was appropriate. The purposes they cited were: explaining particular vocabulary items or phrases; clarifying classroom procedures (e.g. for particular tasks or activities); giving instructions and making sure that the instructions wer e understood; and, maintaining classroom discipline. These views appear to be guiding classroom practice in the three classes that I observed. The teachers were using the students’ first languages for these purposes. In my concluding chapter, I recommend that, in initial teacher education in Oman, more attention should be given to these communicative functions of translation and first language use, while emphasising the importance of using as much English as possible in EFL teaching in the early years. The most appropriate way to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL) is a source of primary scholarly debate. Recently, more attention has been given to the use of translation and the native language (L1) in communicative English Language Teaching (ELT). Most of the theories inform us that young childrens language development is influenced by many factors, including using their first language to explain concepts and express abstract reasoning.

Let Us Grieve for the Women of Salem Essay -- Arthur Millers The Cruci

Featured in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is a powerful dynamic between the levels of a maintained social hierarchy. There are shifts in the social hierarchy in the town of Salem even though the social hierarchy has been maintained and has existed for a long length of time. The attempts on this maintained structure are met with powerful retaliations that draw in all the members of the town of Salem, resulting in the deaths of many woman and men in the town. The Crucible reflects on the historical context of this struggle and shows what would happen if the status quo were changed. The play presents what people would do in order to hold on to the power that they are slowly losing through false pretense. The Salem witch trails were a society’s way of attempting to maintain a structure they are used to, using hysteria to help them grasp onto a dying conscience they once had and to explain what could not be explained. Today, the issues that are presented in this play, the so cial hierarchy and what is done to maintain it, still exist. The University of Toronto – Scarborough Campus’s theatre company performed The Crucible. The production followed Arthur Miller’s play showing the audience the fear and hysteria that ran through Salem during the witch trails. The importance of religion was evident just as the play opens up to hearing a prayer being spoken. Themes of paranoia, religion, and McCarthyism were present throughout the presentation. The overall acting and set provided the audience with a more intimate viewing of what happened throughout the Salem witch trails. American Judicial System

The American judiciary system was found on the adversarial model. In the United State of America, the constitution founders believed that the only best form of government was one that would promote the welfare of an individual such as one social class or a director. The middle class was favored as the most likely group to promote the common welfare because they had in mind that the rich and poor would mostly be concerned with promotion of their own interests. The founders of constitution also believed that the common welfare meant having total protection to each individual’s natural rights of property, life and liberty. They chose a form of government called the republican government (Vaughan, 2003, p. 1712-1862). Because England’s powers of government were balanced and divided among the king and the parliaments two houses (the commons and the House of Lords), this system was applicable. This is because it best exemplified republican government. Madison J. who was one of the United States Farmers had his own definition to the republic as a nation or country whose laws and policies are made and administered by some of representatives of the people. He recommended that those representatives should be elected by a large number of people but not a small class. In addition, he figured out that such a government would fully serve the society with no special consideration to particular groups. More so, apart from their nations of republican government, natural rights and common good the constitution founders wanted written laws that would clearly show the rights of all individuals and extent of the power in government. The American constitution sets forth the fundamental laws and rules showing how their government is operated and organized.Although most of the countries have both unwritten and written constitutions, the limited powers of the government by a constitution which must be obeyed by the government is the one that distinguishes a dictatorial gove rnment from a constitutional one. The contrast is perceived in that, the dictatorial government has unlimited powers over the government and its natural resources. It is very difficult for the citizens to force such kind of tyrannical rules to obey the law because the rules also control the nation’s defense force group like police and military.https://www. netsafa. navy. mil/ipg/judicial-process. htm In a government governed by a constitution, the laws set should show the basic rights of its citizens to their property, liberty and life. It states that the government should have a responsibility to guard such rights. It also has the government’s power limitations shows the extent to which citizen’s lives cannot be interfered with by the government. Also it includes the ways by which the nation can be changed through the consent of its citizens. The constitution farmers in America borrowed some ideas from the British model and came up with a series of balances and checks so as to have protection against power abuse by the government. To avoid domination of powers by one sector in the government, powers are given to quite different branches of government. The two main power branches in a constitution include; the executive branch which has the responsibility of enforcing the laws, and the legislative branch which is responsible for law making. This information centers on the judicial branch system in the United States government (Young, 54).Although all other nations have laws and rules governing people’s relationships with each other, and other kinds of rules which govern human relationships like the custom, religion and accepted morality, the American’s judicial system appears to be a bit complex. The complexity is with the courts at different levels like in state, Federal County and Municipal bodies. It is not easy to understand the interrelationships although there are laws which clarifies jurisdiction and assigns responsibil ities. According to the judicial foundation system, nobody and nothing in the country can stand outside the law or above the law.In the United States, the penalty for running a red light in vehicles is same to the general or admiral because it is made for a season or private. The brief in the primacy of the law is basic to the citizen’s way of life. The law becomes the ultimate arbiter while the courts are its major guardians. The actions of all other government branches must have consistency with the laws. With regardless of citizens’ official status, social position, religion, wealth or political creed, they are all subject to the law. This acts as one major goal for justice in America. The court ensures same law enforcement upon the powerless and the powerful. Due to this reason the courts and the law are said to be the fundamental guardians of equality life in United States. What is more important with American Judicial system is that, once an individual is accused of crime, he or she is regarded as to be innocent until when he is proved guilty in the courtroom. This implies that, the burden of proof is left to the prosecutor, the accused victim requires not prove his or her innocence (Young, 54). Once a person has been accused in law violation, the law insists that such an individual be tried by a jury. These juries are made up of just ordinary citizens who are chosen to serve temporarily in court to listen to the evidences in case where by they decide whether the accused is innocent or guilty. They are not official government. In United States, judiciary is a quite separate branch of government. Besides the fact that judicial system is subject to the same types of balances and checks as for the case in legislative and executive branches, it is not controlled by either of them it implies that, courts are not in any way influenced by the executive and legislative in their duties.Their courts are perceived to play an important role in their acti vities to shape the public policy. They are seen to provide judicial legal interpretations for both civil law and criminal law. More so, they shape legal policy through appeals and trials (Harper 1998). After adoption of the constitution in 1989, the federal and state courts have used the power in declaring an action at the executive branch or legislature as unconstitutional thus making them null and void. Generally, the American courts are no only important because of justice administration but also due to shaping public policy.According to many people it is perceived that American justice is very slow. Yes it is true that the dockets of court are very full but all these aims at fairness in justice. The judicial system of America is an integral system where by the people’s rights are protected against government interferences. Due to judicial system body being set as an independent body, it is true that justice is being administered in light of the court room work groups and assembly line justice.According to the citizens, this is a very good thing because there is no difference between poor and rich in the law administration.
